The advanced display manager for macOS

BetterDisplay is a macOS application that extends what you can do with built-in and external displays. It adds flexible HiDPI scaling, custom resolutions, hardware and software brightness, volume and input control, XDR and HDR extra brightness, virtual screens, Picture in Picture, configuration protection and automation - the controls macOS does not expose on its own, gathered into one menu-bar app.

Why this site exists

betterdisplay.cc is an independent resource for people who use BetterDisplay in real Mac setups - from a single external monitor to docked MacBooks, ultrawides, HDR creative work, headless servers and AV systems. The goal is simple: one tidy place to download BetterDisplay and learn how to get the most out of it. The file we point to is the genuine BetterDisplay release - nothing is re-packaged, wrapped in our own installer, or padded with extras.

The official project

BetterDisplay is developed by @waydabber at Kodeon Software. For releases, source, issue tracking, feature requests, technical discussions and the wiki, visit the official BetterDisplay repository on GitHub. If you rely on the advanced capabilities day to day, you can support development and unlock the complete feature set with BetterDisplay Pro, which uses a perpetual license rather than a subscription.

From BetterDummy to BetterDisplay

The project started as BetterDummy, an open-source utility focused on virtual displays and the HiDPI scaling problems faced by Mac users with external monitors and remote systems. As it grew to manage real displays, brightness, color, DDC, HDR, streaming, automation and advanced configuration, it became BetterDisplay - and it continues to evolve through active development and community feedback.
